MVMC's limited housing and homelessness services were formalized in July 2019 with the assistance and guidance of the State of Utah Office of Homelessness and the Grand County Local Homeless Council (GCLHC).
Factors that influenced MVMC’s decision to formalize these services included: 1) The rise of both chronically and situationally homeless persons coming to MVMC for services, 2) The affordable and low-income housing crisis in Grand County, 3) The lack of correct data relating to the actual need for housing and homelessness assistance in Grand County at the State level.
MVMC works closely with the State of Utah and the Grand County Local Homeless Council to make homelessness in Moab rare, brief, and nonrecurring. An average of 53 individuals per month are experiencing homelessness or imminent homelessness each month in Moab, according to ongoing data collected by Moab's Coordinated Entry Committee. Individuals seeking assistance can receive a free assessment of their needs and optional case management for housing stability. A variety of social services are available for anyone experiencing homelessness including an on-site food pantry, hygiene items, clothing vouchers, ID vouchers, and application assistance.
This program has been highly utilized since its first day and the GCLHC is always looking for donations of new:
- Tents (2 and 4 person)
- Adult Sleeping bags
- Sleeping pads
- Single burner stoves
- Stove fuel
- Headlamps
Items can be shipped to or dropped off at the MVMC.
