Beginning on January 1, 2019, we began offering limited Immigration Legal Services with the assistance and guidance of a licensed Immigration attorney. Factors that influenced our decision to formalize these services included:
-
- Large-scale Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests & corresponding family outcry for legal services
- Increasing immigrant population in Grand County
- Documented increase in requests for legal services for immigrants
- Stricter and complex changes in recent Immigration Law
- Scarcity of immigration legal services in Moab and Southeastern Utah
Prior to 2019, we responded to requests for immigration legal services by providing support services and referrals to immigration attorneys in other parts of Utah. Most of our clients live in Grand, San Juan, and Emery counties of southeastern Utah. We estimate that nearly 2,000 immigrants live in this region and the population is only growing. Our advocates work to assist clients with ancillary social services such as mental health referrals, accessing medical attention, and language services. We are a safe and welcoming bilingual Community Center that can help navigate immigration concerns large and small.
MVMC is proud to offer very low-cost Immigration Legal Services to people living in Moab and surrounding rural areas. A consultation starts at just $35 and MVMC advocates are prepared to help with document support and case management for:
- Naturalization
- DACA
- Green Card Renewal
- Adjustment of Status
- U, T, and VAWA Visas
- Referrals to private Immigration attorneys
